Got A Little Back

Got a little back today
Should have seen it
Play of the day
To make it even better
Behind us Sun Rays!

We walked the entire course
He carried his clubs the whole way
Shakin’ off the rust
We both had some shanks
But that’s okay

But when we stepped up on the last hole
I went first
He wanted to follow
And I really enjoy to show
I hit my shot
And fired him up
Put it 10 feet from the cup

He grabbed his tee
And stuck it in
Lined it up and let it go
It hit in front of the green
It started to roll
Front front to back
And I said hey
On the fringe and to the right
His best shot of the day

What he had left
About 25 feet
He got on a knee to line it up
It was one really tough put
From right to left
And back again
I hit record and left in the pin
The next thing you know
He made his stroke
I had been working with him

This very hard put
It went right in!

As it happened, I remember the sound
I ran over to him
Man I was proud
I called my dad
He called his mom
“I made my first birdie today!”

What it did for my soul
My son couldn’t see
A piece of my spirit
Was brought back to me.
